The Season begins !

After the fake kick-off organized a few weeks ago, the real “kick-off” took place this weekend with the discovery of the 2022 game “Rapid React”.

From now on the competition can start!
We now have about 8 weeks to create a robot from scratch with many differents mechanisms.

This year, the kick-off was quite particular. For some, it took place in person, for others it was from home since part of the team had contracted the Covid.

During part of the evening, parents, partners (such as MAHP) but also the Jacques Prévert high school were able to share the discovery of this year’s game with us remotely and thus get an idea of what a kick-off was.

The objectives of this weekend were numerous:

– to understand the game so that each member of the team could integrate all its characteristics,
– to define a strategy through rounds and to determine the different mechanisms of our future robot,
– Finally, to define the role of each team member.

To define our strategy during this kick-off, we divided into teams of 3-5 students with a mentor. Each team was assigned a round.
The themes of the rounds were:

  • “Game analysis and rephrasing”, to make sure the whole team mastered the rules of the game and its different elements;
  • “Extreme cutting”, to study all possible actions by the robot;
  • “Timing”, to determine the time needed for each action;
  • “Timing and complexity”, to define and order the complexity of actions and series of actions;
  • “Scenario”, the aim was to imagine different scenarios (i.e. several match possibilities) with different types of alliances (weak or strong), with whom we could end up during the competition;
  • “Ranking”, which consisted in imagining all the mechanisms we need for the game and establishing a priority ranking.

For each round, the different teams had to work on a specific subject, and after several stages, a general feedback was organizing to share our findings and ideas.

This kick-off would not have been possible without the help of our mentors who did a remarkable job of preparation and organisation!

Let’s remember the main objective of this season for the Robo’Lyon team: to go to the championship which will take place in Houston. To get there, we have two possibilities : the first is to win the Regional with our robot, the second, to win the qualifying prize: the engineering inspiration award.
